Our History

The original Junior School building dates from the late 1950s and

the school was opened (as a primary school) in 1958. As the

school outgrew this building, a new Infant school was opened in

1963 and the two schools became separately managed.

Ridgeway Primary School  was formed in 1996 following the reorganisation of the existing Infant and Junior Schools.

Following re-organisation into a new primary school in 1996, the

new building, providing a link corridor and staffroom, was

opened in January 1997.  This was an exciting time because as a new school we were able to reflect upon its curriculum, core values and ethos.  Building upon the Foundation Stage values, we developed our core values and developed a coherent,  exciting and creative curriculum - 'Contexts for Learning.'

Croydon Council  decided to  expand the school from 2 form entry to 3 form entry, as we were over-subscribed and there was a need for further school places within the locality.  This then was followed by a series of building work to allow for the new classes. A new building programme to accommodate the expansion of the school began in November 2000 was completed Spring 2002.  Part of this building works was to build our purpose-built Nursery which opened in 2001.  The second phase of building works created new KS2 classrooms, a Music room and an ICT suite.

The current Headship Team have been in post at Ridgeway since 2015, although all four members of this team have worked at Ridgeway for a number of years.
